Memories And Emotions Can Colour Our Awareness

By George Lockett Memories of past events in our life can have associated with them deep emotional charge. This can cause these memories to keep repeating themselves over and over again throughout our life. Sometimes the pattern is triggered by our environment and sometimes by a person or situation. Once triggered, the memory of the event plays out, with all the deep emotional charge of the original event. The first step to solving this pattern of behaviour is to become aware of the process. If you find your mood swinging for no apparent reason it may be that one of these past memories is playing out at a subconscious level. By focusing on what is happening, you are bring it back into the conscious mind and questioning the validity of the experience and emotions you are experiencing. Through forgiveness we can release the energies, which are stuck in this pattern of experience and behaviour. Through forgiveness we release the emotional charge and this can be both for the other person and yourself or associated with an event. These memory patterns can keep playing out over long periods of time and create shadows, which stop us seeing the true reality of a situation. As we move into the new energy more of these patterns of behaviour are coming up to the surface of the mind to be released. As we release each one, we become a little more aware of the true reality around us. We become a little more centred within ourselves and aware of what is happening now and receive genuine information from our senses. This growth in our awareness and expansion of our feelings and emotions allows us to grow in self knowledge. It gives us the freedom to choose our mood first and come from our own heart centre and radiate love to those around us. We stop reacting to life and start to create the life we would love to experience and grow into. We empower ourselves to see life as it truly is and enjoy it in the moment, without carrying all the baggage of past events with us. We become a master of ourselves and therefore master the way we see and experience the world in which we live. We are growing on the path to mastery and enjoying living life in an evolutionary way. This growth is happening now on an individual level. Soon we will see it happening in our communities and on the level of government and will grow into a new awareness in the world of the oneness of life. Traditional Foods Provide Comfort

By Elizabeth Catalanotto A year later, the devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita continues to affect the lives those from the affected areas. While some continue to rebuild others are settling into new hometowns and states. But despite all that has been endured many continue to keep the spirit of their Cajun culture alive while adapting to these life changes. This may be in part to the joie de vivre (joy of living) approach to life that permeates throughout Louisiana. This joy of living attitude is seen in all aspects of Cajun culture from the numerous state festivals and extravagant Mardi Gras celebrations to the family get-togethers centered on traditional Cajun cuisine. It is apparent that Louisianans seek to enjoy life to its fullest throughout the year. Because many of Louisiana's traditions focus on the enjoyment and sharing of food that it is often said that "Cajuns live to eat." So it seems fitting that those who have suffered in the aftermath of these hurricanes would benefit from eating and sharing familiar comfort foods with each other. Some of the most popular Cajun dishes like red beans and rice, gumbo, etouffee, and jambalaya can help trigger thoughts of home and happier times for those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Since several of the customary dishes in Louisiana are simple one pot meals that can easily feed a large crowd, many shelters served these traditional Cajun meals to provide evacuees with a familiar reminder of home in the early days following storms. Turning to these traditional Cajun foods for comfort may help evacuees feel more at home even if they now live hundreds of miles from their home state of Louisiana. They can even continue to cook their favorite Cajun meals with Louisiana ingredients by ordering them online. Most Louisiana online stores offer everything from Louisiana hot pepper sauces and coffee to stuffed turduckens and fresh Louisiana seafood. Simple comfort foods may not be a cure all for the damage caused, but they can certainly put some well needed familiarity back into any true Cajun's life. Elizabeth Catalanotto is a contributing writer for CajunGrocer Louisianas premier online food store offering a wide selection of Cajun foods including turduckens, andouille sausages, alligator meat and more. 5 Ways to Cut Your Health Care Costs

By Douglas Hanna A recent survey showed that 22 percent of Americans considered health care to be the single most critical issue facing the U.S. today. And for good reason. Since 2000, health-care costs have nearly doubled, rising at five times the rate of salary increases. The good news is that there are things that families can do to lower those costs. Sign up for an HMO If yours is a healthy family that only uses a lot of routine care, you can probably get by with a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan, if such a plan is available at your workplace. If you use doctors within the HMO network, you probably wont have to pay and deductibles and your co-pays will most likely be lower. Pay less for medications One area where you might be able to trim health-care costs is in medications. Many employers are offering financial incentives to encourage the use of less expensive drugs. In fact, nearly nine out of 10 workers are now in some kind of a plan that has a tiered cost-sharing formula for medicines. The way these work is that there is one co-payment for generic drugs. Then, there is usually higher co-pay for preferred, brand name drugs such as Claritan or Levatol for which there is no generic substitute, and even higher co-pays for non-preferred drugs. Be sure to always check with your doctor or pharmacist to see if there is a generic substitute before filling a prescription. Generics generally cost 30 to 70 percent less than brand-name drugs with an average co-pay of just $10 vs. $33 for a brand name, non-preferred drug. If there is no generic equivalent to the drug you have been prescribed, ask your insurer or company HR department if there is a substitute drug that would cost less under your health plan. Take advantage of a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) An FSA allows you to deduct money pretax from your paycheck to cover out-of-pocket medical expenses. The good news has gotten even better, too, as the list of expenses you can pay using FSA dollars has been expanded dramatically. In fact, the list now includes most over-the-counter drugs, and new services that make it easier to spend down your account. Yet, despite all the many benefits of FSAs, only about 20 percent of eligible employees current take advantage of them. While contributions vary by employer, you can often contribute as much as $5,000 per year. Given this, youll save as much as 30 percent on your Federal Income Tax. Naturally, this will vary depending on your tax bracket. You can use FSA dollars to pay insurance deductibles and co-pays, and for such un-reimbursed expenses as acupuncture, contact lenses, flu shots and LASIC surgery. You can find a list of eligible items at www.irs.gov. Be sure to ask your HR department about the availability of an FSA. You can only elect to contribute to an FSA for a particular calendar year during an open enrollment benefits time or if youve had a life-altering event, such a marriage or the birth of a child. Fight overcharges Nobodys perfect, including doctors and hospital billing departments. Billing overcharges can occur and they cost you literally thousands of dollars. Consider the case of one patient who received a bill for $15,333 for 49 vials of Pepcid. The correct amount: $317. Typos like this can happen and, as you can see, can be very costly. Keep a list of all any lab tests, medications, procedures and specialists seen during an illness. Then, do not pay any bills until you see itemized statements. Check these statements against the list you kept to spot common errors such as incorrect dates of service and duplicate or incorrect orders for medication. In the event you find an error, call the hospitals or doctors billing department and your insurance company to get the mistake corrected. Play Lets make a deal While this may sound over the top, it is sometimes possible to negotiate lower prices. Some employees have found they were able to bargain with their pharmacists. Other employees, although fewer in number, have suc- cessfully played lets make a deal with doctors, dentists and hospitals. In fact, this can be surprisingly successful, as patients who have negotiated have nabbed a lower fee in about half of all cases. Naturally, you wont want to try to negotiate emergency care but you may be able to save money on expensive services such as orthodontia or LASIK surgery. Where can you negotiate most successfully? Try young doctors who are just starting a practice or doctors with whom you have a long history. Before you start any negotiation, call your insurance company and see what it considers to be a reasonable and customary charge for the procedure. Then try to get your doctor to limit his or her bill to that amount as the providers prices often run 25 to 50 percent higher than what the insurance company would pay If possible, offer to pay part of your bill in cash. Cutting the cost of your health care is not easy. But if youre willing to do the work and check out all available options, you just might be able to take a scalpel to them. Bridal Shower Checklist: Checking it Twice

By Gail Leino There are many important things you need to plan out, decide and remember for your shower and thus it's equally important that you have a Bridal Shower checklist to keep track of these important things and check them off one at a time. Hosts: Before the party even starts you need to sit down and figure out who is going to host and direct this big bash. Traditionally its the Bridesmaid who does most of the bridal shower planning, and consequently she is also responsible for the expenses. However you can probably work something out where a collection is taken up to help cover the expenses. Dont forget to set a date for the party so you can make a timeline. Guest list and Invitations: It's very important to have a guest list and after that to remember to make up and send out invitations. Otherwise no one will show up. Decorations: Pick a theme, any theme and start looking for the decorations to go with that theme idea. In general youll need ribbons, flowers, balloons, streamers, baskets, tableware and silverware, favors, candles or potpourri, table cloths, lighting, banners, etc. Food: It's what feeds us all and guests will love a sampling of snacks or even a full course meal at the bridal shower. Decide on a menu and get cooking. Activities: Youll need to fall back on some games and entertainment in order to keep the going or give it a little jumpstart from time to time. One I recommend is the Who Am I game in which you attach a piece of paper to each of the guest's backs as they arrive. On this sheet will be the name of a person or general description and guests will have to ask each other questions in order to figure out who they are. Before the shower starts check to make sure you have enough food, favors and supplies for all the guests you are expecting. Cook any food or heat it to the proper temperature. You may want to set up the decorations the night before to save some time before the shower the next day. Mrs. Party... Unibrow: Dealing With Monobrow Eyebrow

By C Mueller Unibrow refers to when your eyebrows actually appear to be one solid line of hair rather than two distinct eyebrows. For most people, there is a distinct space of hair free skin between the eyebrows but for many people, hair that grows in this space gives the appearance of one big long eyebrow and it can be something they want to deal with. In some cultures, unibrow (or monobrow) is often seen as being visually undesirable and both men and women can experience it. Eyebrows are funny in that we tend not to spend much time thinking about them but they often become very noticeable when people start doing things to them like shaping or trying to minimize them. In that regard, shaving your eyebrow hair is generally not considered to be an effective or desirable method to deal with unibrow since you could accidentally (and very quickly) shave too much hair which will really make your eyebrows noticeable, and for the wrong reason! Here are some options that people often consider to remove unwanted eyebrow hair. Tweezing: Using tweezers to pluck individual eyebrow hairs is a popular method of dealing with unibrow. Since it involves removing hairs by the root, it can hurt but can also help you achieve several weeks of hair removal if not longer. You might also consider using a professional (ie. in a beauty salon or clinic) to do it for you so that desirable results are achieved. Waxing: As with the tweezing option, waxing can also give you several weeks or longer of hair free skin but given the relatively small space between the eyebrows, this might be a process best conducted by a professional lest you wax off more hair than you wanted. Laser or Light-based treatment: Laser and light-based treatment can be a good option for unibrow removal since it may result in relatively long term hair removal of the unwanted hair. Given the size of the area that can be cleared with laser or light-based systems, unwanted eyebrow hair can usually be treated relatively quickly. Both processes need to be conducted by a professional so cost could be a factor in your decision. Electrolysis: With Electrolysis, you might end up with permanent hair removal and since the space between your eyebrows is relatively small, Electrolysis is often a good choice to eliminate unibrow. Electrolysis can get expensive especially if multiple treatments are involved but it may offer you long term or even permanent results. As with laser and light-based options, Electrolysis needs to be conducted by a professional. Temporary and permanent hair removal technology is evolving constantly and is relevant to both men and women who want to remove unwanted hair. Funky Garden Plants 2

By Valerie Garner What's a perennial garden plant that blooms in the winter? A hellebore! It is an outdoor plant that is shocking to see blooming sometimes in the snow. There are many varieties. They are perennial which means they come back year after year. These are best planted in shady areas, but where they will get sun in the winter, for instance under leafed trees or something of that nature. What is so unusual about hellebores is that they bloom somewhere between Dec. and March. There are very few plants that do that! One variety is called a Christmas Rose. These plants usually must be puchased at a nursery. Check out your local nursery for this wonderful family of plants. Another plant you'll surely want to try is called Sweet Annie. This is actually an annual herb, in the worm wood family. The seed is very fine and you sow it in direct sunlight in the spring after all danger of frost is gone. Sweet Annie can get up to 6 feet tall. It's fragrance is wonderful! My favorite use for Sweet Annie is in the fall to cut it to the ground and dry it. It can be used as wonderful, fragrant filler for dried flower arrangements, and it can also be bound with fine wire to form a wreath base of its own. Simply tuck in other dried flowers here and there around it and you've got a beautiful dried floral wreath with a fragrance to die for! Another unusual one is called Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate. Yes, this really is the name of a plant! It's official name is Polygonum orientale. It's an old-fashioned annual knotweed used for bold effect. It has large heart shaped leaves and pendulous clusters of small pink flowers. In rich, moist soil and full sun it can go to six feet tall. Best to sow the seed in fall or early spring where it is to grow. Lastly another unusual plant to try is the Balloon Flower. These are perennial, meaning they will return year after year. The latin name for these are: platycodon grandiflorus. They are very hardy, durable plants and very beautiful. Balloon flowers are about the size of a ping pong ball and look like little "balloons". Once they fully open up they split and you can see the center portion and the bloom then resembles a star. They usually come in shades of purple, pink and white. Very cute, the plants only get about 2 feet tall. Try one! Feeling Connected in Relationships

By Gary Van Warmerdam Do you sometimes feel disconnected from your partner? Do you feel that you are drifting apart or not being heard? Listening and communicating is more than just the exchange of words and concepts. We dont need an umbilical cord to be connected to someone, but we do need to pay attention to create the feeling of being connected. It is with the power of our attention that we build channels of communication, not with what we say. One of the detrimental assumptions we make in relationships is that we understand our partner. In making this assumption, we have stopped listening closely to them. We hear the words or phrases they say and assume that we know what is coming next. Our minds quickly project the story as we see it. We stop paying attention because we have already moved on to the conclusion our mind has come up with. We might hear their words, but our attention has gone on to forming our reply. By losing our attention to our own thoughts, we no longer have that connection of presence with our partner. That presence is something that is felt as an energetic and emotional connection; our partners can sense when it is there, and when it is not. When we do not listen, our partners lose the feeling of connection that we all yearn for in our relationships. Our partner may start to lose the trust that we are there for them in other ways as well. When we are really interested in what our partners say, we ask questions. We do not comment or give our opinions. We listen by asking questions that explore our partners viewpoint and their understanding. It does not mean that we have to agree or propose a solution, only that we listen attentively. Our attention is there with our partner in their world, and not concerned with getting our opinion heard. This dynamic of listening is often genuine and automatic with people who are just getting to know each other. Eager to learn as much as they can, new couples enjoy the energy and emotion in channels of attentive communication. Later, as we become more familiar with our partners and assume we know them, we might not pay close attention to what they say. This changes the emotional quality of the channel that connects us. The energetic and emotional quality of being present with them is compromised or lost. Women generally notice the changes in communication sooner than men, because they pay more attention to their emotions. When we assume to know what is being said we dont pay attention as closely. We are subconsciously sending the message that what someone says is not important. This is sometimes interpreted as, If what I say is not important, then they must think that I am not important. This interpretation creates a reaction that closes the channel of communication even further. Practical steps to open channels of communication There are many things you can do to strengthen or create channels of communication. When you are listening to someone, refrain from commenting. This will help you pay closer attention to that person and what they are saying. You can relax when you know that you dont have to come up with a comment for reply. To hold up your end of the conversation, simply limit what you say to exploratory questions. It may help to think of your self as a journalist doing an interview. Your job is to ask questions and explore what your partner is talking about. You will likely notice that your mind has comments about what they say. When this happens, notice that you are no longer focused on understanding their communication. You are also no longer present with them and have lost the energetic connection. You may also find it tempting to speak your comments. Refrain, as this isnt really listening. When you jump in with your own opinions you are sending the message that what they are saying is less important than your words. When someone is interrupted they often feel put down and disrespected. In order to avoid those feelings they may stop sharing themselves with you. By focusing your attention differently in relationships, you can redirect the channels of communication between you and everyone you relate with. By changing the channels of communication you change the emotion and way you feel with people in your life. With practice it becomes possible to consciously connect with everyone in your life. As you practice using your attention with awareness you get to determine the quality of emotion in the channels of communication. Then it is only a matter of asking your self, What do I want to feel in my relationships? What can your relationships feel like? Often the most beautiful feelings we experience in relationship happen when no one is talking. There is a lot to be present with using just the power of attention on each other and what we are feeling. The beauty and intensity of connection when two people silently listen to each other transcends words. Gary van Warmerdam is a coach and teacher of common sense and unconditional love. What Exactly is a Honeymoon Registry?

By Vlady Peters I guess, most of us know what a Bridal Registry is, so it must follow that we should know what a Honeymoon Registry is. Right? Wrong! We all know that when a bride and groom register with a Bridal Registry what theyre doing is registering for the gifts that they would like to receive. A shop, or shops, keep a list of these preferred gifts and when a guest selects one they wrap it and send it to the bridal couples nominated address. But how does that work in the case of a Honeymoon, when there are no actual gifts involved? And with whom exactly does a bride and groom register? Considering that Honeymoons are mostly associated with travel, would it be a travel agent? For a moment we need to stop thinking about the Honeymoon in connection with travel, and return to the original concept of Registry as a place where a bride and groom register a list of their preferred gifts. Even in the case of the Honeymoon, it is still a question of gifts. But now, the Honeymoon itself is the gift. And, instead of selecting a cup and saucer, or a kettle, as a guest would in the case of the traditional Bridal Registry, a guest will give the bridal couple a sliver of the Honeymoon. To most of us, the newness of Honeymoon Registries makes the process seem a great deal more complicated than the Bridal Registries, until we realize that even Bridal Registries, familiar as they are to us, are not necessarily exactly the same. A young couple, starting almost with nothing, will have a vastly different list of preferred gifts than a couple who have everything, including their own home and half a dozen children. One could almost say, that the Honeymoon Registry is just another facet of the Bridal Registry, trying to accomodate a need, that in the past was always considered the responsibility of the couple concerned, rather than their relatives and friends. Oily Skin Care Tips

By Jennifer Puffer Oily skin can be difficult to deal with but with the right products and techniques it can be managed. One of the most prevalent problems associated with oily skin is breakouts. The excess oil on the skin makes it difficult to prevent blockage of the pores. Another problem that is a result of oily skin is the inability to maintain a desired look with makeup. Following a few oily skin care tips can help alleviate both of these problems. Preventing breakouts on oily skin can be possible by following a few oily skin care tips. First, washing your face at least twice a day can help to prevent breakouts by preventing pores from getting clogged. Pay close attention to only wash a few times a day because excess washing may only deplete the skin of natural oils that your skin products. It may take a while before you find the right product that will work with your skin type but once you find something that is right be sure to stick with it. Oily skin may also react with certain types of sunblock and moisturizers so when shopping for types of products read the label and be sure they are oil free and won't clog your pores. Preventing makeup from running and smearing can also be prevented with specific oily skin care tips. One of these tips is to choose a water based foundation. This is important because oil based foundations will only compound your oily skin condition and result in your makeup running off of your face. A water based foundation, however, will not contribute to your oily skin care problem and will hold tightly on your face and will help the rest of your makeup remain intact. Another oily skin care tip is to use an application of pressed powder subsequent to your foundation application to set the foundation. Jennifer Puffer is the owner of http://www.ultimate-beauty.com. Scrapbook Photos -- Getting Adventurous With Your Layouts

By Nigel Patterson When you have selected the photos for your scrapbook, youll need to decide how best to lay them out on the pages. Don't feel obliged to follow any principles that dont suit your own design. There are no specific rules stating that all photographs
or mementos must be placed in chronological order. It is completely up you to
decide in what order you wish to place your items and embellishments. Choosing Your Layout You can place your photos in a formal chronological order if you want. You can also
group them into formal or informal categories according to similar colors, events,
activities, individuals or families. Photographs can also be placed into random or
abstract arrangements, or collages. Each style has its own place in scrapbooking. For instance, a chronological order
might be useful for an anniversary scrapbook. Pictures and mementos of the
couples years together could be placed from the first day they met through the
wedding day to the present day with each time period on a different page. On the other hand, a scrapbook for a parent might just have a collage of photos
and drawings to create a sense of the character of their family and their lives
together. Getting Creative With Borders And Frames Next time you want to find materials to make scrapbook photo frames, have a look
in your sewing box or craft cupboard. Youll almost certainly find bits of ribbon, lace
or embroidery cotton that can be re-used to make fascinating and unusual borders
for pictures, photos, text or even entire pages. These items can be used in many different ways by the scrapbooker and help create
a sense of theme or mood, as well as contributing color and texture to your pages. Ribbons and Lace Ribbon and lace are by far the most common and most beautiful border
embellishments. The flowing nature of both materials encourages a touch of
softness and elegance. Ribbon and lace are especially popular in gift and memory
scrapbooks. Ribbon is easy to glue and attach. Lace requires a bit more patience. For an interesting change from ribbon and lace, try using jute or raffia. Embroidery Cotton Embroidery cotton can be used in a number of interesting scrapbooking ways.
Individual fibers can be used to add a focus to special items or used to give
dimension to artwork or drawings. Embroidery fibers can also be twisted or braided for use in artwork or as imaginative
borders. Embroidery cotton can even be used to tie down other items in a beautiful
and creative way. Hemp Hemp can be used for a number of purposes in scrapbooking. Single, twisted, or
braided fibers can be used to add focus as picture frames, or along the edges of the
scrapbook page as a border. Hemp looks especially good in scrapbooks with a
western theme. In general, hemp can also be used to make a scrapbook appear
more masculine. Hemp glues quite easily and hides glue messes well. To increase the likelihood that
a piece of hemp will stay in place while the glue is drying, place a piece of scotch
tape over the rope until the piece dries fully. Always trust your own instincts and have the confidence to organize and decorate
your scrapbook according to how you see the people and events it represents. That
way your work will form a unique record and have even greater personal value. Nigel Patterson is a writer on arts and crafts and the publisher of

Do Not Starve Yourself To Lose Weight

By Antonio T With every introduction to spring and summer comes something that’s as common to the seasons as flowers and sunshine. That something is the hopes of millions and millions of people seeking help to shed the pounds they’ve gained during the cold and miserable months of the winter to get ready to flash their bathing suits for the summer. The season were sales sore for fat burners, fad diet books, abdominal crunchers, and whatever other products claiming to give you a beach body in six weeks. Over the past few weeks I’ve noticed a horrible mindset most people new to weight loss have. It became quite obvious to me while helping some of my friends seeking aid in weight loss. Almost every conversation starts by them asking me for help and me going over the principles and basics to lose weight in a healthy way. Soon after my explanation I’m greeted with the dreaded “This is all too hard, I’ll just eat less.” Are you kidding me? I can’t blame them though, because it’s how a good portion of society thinks when dealing with weight loss. This is the mindset that gives the word “diet” a bad name. It’s the reason why so many people aim to lose weight and end up crashing. Now, I know I’m not too good at writing articles yet but I’ve thrown together some information to share with those new to eating healthy and eating right. Hopefully when you’re done reading this, you’ll stay away from that new obscure diet that wants you to consume 2 peas and a carrot for the day. It’s important that you remember that the less you consume, the less your body burns. When calories are restricted your metabolism decreases anywhere from 20% to 45%! Does that sound like a reasonable way to lose weight? It also explains why the longer you’re on a low calorie diet the less likely you are to lose weight. No matter how low you restrict your calories. This is one of the reasons why people end up crashing on fad diets that severely restrict calories. Many people believe that low calorie diets are the way to go because they produced a great amount of weight loss in a short period of time. Sadly, they are unaware of what goes on behind the scenes. There are several factors that go into a human losing weight when they’re heavily restricting calories. One of those factors is something called gluconeogenesis. Gluco-what? Don’t worry, I’ll explain. Gluconeogenesis is basically a process your body uses when it needs energy and isn’t getting enough food to meet its glucose needs. Normally your body relies on the food you eat for its source. However, when it doesn't’t have enough food in it to start converting to glucose it starts looking for other sources. One of the primary sources it turns to are the amino acids that are derived from muscle tissue. That’s right; some of that weight you lossed isn’t just from fat. It’s also from muscle. Losing muscle while trying to lose body fat is probably one of the most counterproductive things someone could possibly do considering how important muscle is to having a good metabolism. The loss of muscle glycogen also causes you to fatigue easier which makes it difficult to want to do any exercise. Another part of the weight that was lost comes from water weight. When glycogen stores are depleted in your muscle and liver you dehydrate your body. When it’s all said and done, all that weight you lost was hardly even from fat. Aside from making your body consume muscle, low calorie diets do a few other things to. A good example is an enzyme called lipoprotein lipase. It’s the body’s biggest fat storing enzyme. When your calories drop too low, your body produces more of this enzyme as a sort of a survival technique. The body believes that you are starving so it takes measures to ensure that you have enough energy. That energy comes in the form of more stored fat. The bottom line is you need to eat. The only thing you’re doing to your body by going on severe calorie restrictions is ruining it. When you finally crash off of the diet you’re left with a body with a slow metabolism and primed for storing more fat. The same calorie maintenance level you’ve had before the diet is now recognized as a calories surplus by your body because of the way it has adapted to survive. What does that mean? It means you’re going to gain your weight back a lot quicker once you go off the diet. With each crash diet effort, you’re making your body less efficient. Why would you want to do that? Temporary diets yield temporary results. If you were eating right through out the year in the first place you wouldn't’t have to worry about dropping that much fat for the summer. What’s that? You want to lose weight the right way now? Sure, let me explain. Now it's obvious that the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. The trick is to give your body enough calories for it to function properly and to combine weight training and cardio to take care of the rest. The first thing you need to do in order to do that is to find your caloric maintenance level. A maintenance level is the amount of calories your body needs to maintain its current weight. A surplus is the amount of calories your body needs to gain weight and a deficit is the amount needed to lose weight. Once you find out your maintenance level, you’re going to calculate your deficit level. A good guideline for setting a caloric deficit is to lower your daily intake from 15% to 20% of your maintenance level. I’d start out at 15% to see how your body responds to it. If you aren’t losing weight, drop it to 20%. I wouldn’t go much below 20% though and by lose weight I don’t mean 9-10lbs a week. You should be aiming for 1 to 2lbs of weight loss per week. If you’re losing more than 2 pounds a week, chances are that some of that is muscle. The best way to approach fat loss is to use exercise to burn fat, not use some diet to starve it. Remember, losing weight is probably the easiest thing someone can do. Losing weight the right way without losing muscle and ruining your body is a much harder yet much rewarding challenge. Good luck! Radio Controlled Cars A Fun Hobby For All Ages

By David Shephard It doesn't matter if you are eight or eighty, if you love cars and enjoy tinkering about, then racing radio controlled cars can provide you with endless hours of fun and excitement. But there are hurdles that you have to cross before you get to the race track and, if you are a newcomer to the world of radio controlled cars then there are a number of things that you will need to think about. Many people are amazed at just how exciting the world of radio controlled car racing has become in recent years with modern hobby cars reaching speeds of 60 mph and featuring complex suspension systems that can be tuned in much the same way as those of a real car. But perhaps the best feature of today's radio controlled cars is the wide variety of different vehicles available. When the time comes to buy your first radio controlled car you will need to begin by considering three things: 1. Do you want to buy a ready-to-run vehicle or to build your own car from a kit? There is no doubt that building your own car has many advantages, not least the fact that you will find it easy to maintain the vehicle and to make alterations to it if you choose to, but this is certainly not an easy option for the beginner. Although they are a little more expensive, for younger racers and to get you up and running quickly, you would probably be best advised to start with a ready-to-run car and then move on to building your own radio controlled car at a later date. 2. Do you want an on-road or an off-road vehicle? On-road vehicles (on-road here refers to a smooth, paved surface rather than the road itself) are designed for speed and are clearly the option if you wish to race your car. If, however, you are not principally concerned with racing then there are a wide variety of off-road vehicles available including trucks and buggies which can provide immense fun negotiating rough terrain, obstacle courses and even jumps. 3. Do you want an electric vehicle or a nitro powered car? Electrically powered vehicles provide the simplest option and use rechargeable batteries. They are both clean and quiet but, for many hobbyists, they lack the realism that gives radio controlled car racing its true excitement. Nitro powered vehicles, on the other hand, offer the sound (tuned pipe), sights (smoke) and smell (exhaust) of a real car. They do however require considerably more maintenance than their electric counterparts and this is something that the novice needs to take into consideration. Although the quality of nitro powered cars in the past left a lot to be desired, in recent years they have been greatly improved in terms of not only their performance but also their safety and reliability. Having considered the options of ready-to-run or kit cars, on-road or off-road and whether you want an electric or nitro powered car, the next step is to visit your local supplier and take a look at the huge range of cars available. Then its time for some practice before you head off to the race track. The Growing Popularity Of Liposuction For Men

By Michelle Bery When we think of plastic surgery of any kind, most of us immediately think of women as the patients. Traditionally, the overwhelming percentages of patients who undergo plastic surgery are women. But the truth is, more and more men are signing up for plastic surgery in an effort to defy age and shed extra pounds. To this end, liposuction for men, especially, has become vastly popular. Liposuction is a surgical procedure wherein small incisions are made around an area holding excess fat deposits. The surgeon inserts a tube into the incisions and aggressively vacuums fat from the body. For women, the most popular places to have liposuction are on the abdomen, inner thighs, and buttocks. Liposuction is a great way to attack trouble spots that have not responded adequately to proper diet and exercise. Liposuction for men achieves the same effect the eradication of trouble spots that typically hold excess fat deposits. In the case of liposuction for men, the most popular places on which to have the procedure are the abdomen, neck, and loins. You will often hear men complain about the spare tire or love handles around their middle an area that often stubbornly resists proper diet and exercise. Liposuction for men just as with women should be approached with caution and only after other measures have been taken to eliminate fat deposits. Liposuction is not a magic bullet for weight loss; the patient should already be living a lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and a consistent exercise program. For those interested in liposuction for men who do not follow these healthy guidelines, the results will be less than satisfactory. Following liposuction for men, a vigilant diet and exercise program should be followed to maintain the results of the surgery and give you the best appearance possible. Fly Fishing Information - Tips and Instruction at a Fly Fishing Show

By Stanley Stanton Most of the consumer fly fishing shows across the country combine fly fishing, guides, lodges and fishing boats in one big show so they can draw as many people as possible. In most cases, these special interests are usually separated into different areas of the show building or buildings. This is a big help if youre just looking for fly fishing items. There are two ways you can attend a consumer fly fishing show. First, you can buy your ticket, walk in the main door, and go around the show, looking here and there and then exit. The second, and the method I suggest, is to go to a fly fishing show with a goal in mind, and have a plan to accomplish that goal. So lets get started! Here are a few tips about how to get the most from a trade show that I have learned from being an exhibitor in fishing tackle shows for over 20 years. When you first hear about a fly fishing show in your area that you may want to attend, go online, get the website of the show, and print out the list of show exhibitors plus the times and dates of featured speakers and programs you also may want to see. Review the listing, and highlight the manufactures and show booths, including the time and dates of the speakers, and programs you want to visit. Be sure to take this list with you when you attend the show. Plan to attend the show early the first day or so to avoid big weekend crowds that will slow you down as you move around the show. If you only have one day to attend, expect to spend 6 to 8 hours on your feet working the show. Your shoes are important, so wear a pair that will give your feet good support on hard concrete floors. Wear a lightweight casual jacket because crowded show buildings tend to get very warm and muggy later in the day. Purchase show tickets in advance at a ticket outlet, or a show sponsor. This will save you time and money, not having to wait in long ticket lines, and not having to pay higher show day ticket prices. Plan in advance where you will need to park your car. You may be able to take a park-and-ride shuttle bus right to the front door of the show. I like shuttle buses, they save you time, drop you off and pick you up and keep you out of inclement weather. Be sure to take a small backpack or tote bag with some bottled water and a few trail mix bars or snacks, it beats the old steamed out soggy $6.00 hot dog and a $4.00 drink you usually get from the concessions at these shows. You can also use the backpack and or tote bag to put all the sales brochures you will collect during the show. Dont forget your cell phone, reading glasses, note pad, mad money and a couple of pencils and pens. When you first enter the show building lobby, pickup a show brochure and refer to the show booth number/location layout page. Take a few minutes to locate and circle the booths you want to visit, refer to your on line web site exhibitors listing page so you dont miss anyone. Also circle the locations of the speaker rooms, theaters, restrooms and fire exits. This is your show map and guide for the day. A few minutes doing these simple things will save you precious time and help you to effectively navigate the show to accomplish your goals If one of your priorities is to get information about a specific product, first go to the manufacture booths and talk with the factory sales representatives. These guys are factory trained, very knowledgeable and they know all the ins and outs of their product line. They have the latest insight and up to date information on the products you are looking for, and they can tell you where you can make your purchases. Be sure to take good notes, because you may see 10-20 different sales people during the day and it is easy to forget who said what about a specific product. After you have talked with the factory representatives go to the booths of the local fly shops in your area, talk with them, and get their thoughts on the products you are looking for. Support your local fly shops, as they are a valuable source of fly fishing information and products that relate to your area. Remember, visit and work the show booths around the presentation times of the guest speakers and programs. The speakers and programs may only be on once or twice during the day, but the show booths will be there all day long. For example, attending a guest speaker presentation or program will give you the opportunity to sit down and rest for a while and at the same time, learn a lot of valuable fly fishing tips and fishing information. You also need to set some time aside for having fun. Plan a couple of hours of just going up and down the aisles just looking for interesting booths and vendors. Just about all the fly fishing related booths and exhibitors will be located around or near the casting ponds. Dont forget to make a note of the times when celebrity casters may be putting on fly-casting demonstrations; you can pick up a lot good fly casting tips and techniques. If you happen to make a purchase of any item, guide deposit or lodge deposit during the show, make sure you get a vendors receipt for exactly what you purchased, including the days date. Some shows require you to have a receipt for merchandise you have in your position when you exit the show. Good luck and enjoy the show. The Unbelievable Becomes Believable

By Curtis Graham The Path Is Winding: Ever wonder why things that happen in our lives seem so cruel and undeserved? Why do these things happen to me? Why am I being punished like this? What am I doing wrong? All of us have sought answers to these questions dozens of times. Have you found the answer yet? We all have some sort of dubious answers as to why they happen. Many are good events, and many are bad things. Maybe its just fate, or just coincidence. Your faith might have something to do with it. But, how could that be? God doesnt torture us, or intentionally lead us astray. Does he? Ten Steps To Find The Inevitable Answer: 1.Take a good look inside yourself.
2.Examine in detail how each sudden turn in the path altered your life.
3.List all of the reasons why you think that turn has unexpectedly made your life better in one way or another.
4.Make a list of all of the problems and difficulties that would have taken place if your life had not taken a turn.
5.Compare the lists you just created and discover the hidden connections.
6.Allow you mind to bring those connections into reality.
7.Find the inevitable answer.
8.Notice how unexplainably your life becomes more peaceful and fruitful.
9.Later, take a good look back and it all becomes understandable.
10.Recognize that you dont just think it, you know it! God does walk with you! 1. Take a good look inside yourself: We never give ourselves enough credit. You can find out what kind of person you really are. Ask yourself; are you always kind, tolerant, respectful, judgmental, feeling hate, a troublemaker, argumentative, and etc.? Write down all the descriptive words that you believe fit you. If you lie, you lose. You do not need to go to a shrink to see what you are made of. Look at the list! OK, so you fudged a little on a couple of the descriptive terms. We arent perfect. Sometimes we are like this, and sometimes we are the opposite, depending on the circumstances. However, most of us are predominantly one or the other personality type as we go through life. It is really a challenge to describe yourself harshly, no holds barred! Knowing how you act and feel about things in life prepares you for the next step. 2. Examine in detail how each sudden turn in your path altered your life: Life is never easy for anyone. You never get a free pass. Believe it or not, every event in your life, good or bad, does have a reason for happening. If you dont believe that, then later on you might. For the time being, accept it. Look at the circumstances that led up to what happened carefully. Where were they leading you? Look at what happened after the issue was resolved. Then pay particular attention to what effect it had in the long run. Were you removed from a bad environment? Could you have been forced into a decision that you hated to make, and later you found peace with it? Well, you arent alone there. Look critically for the positive results. They are there! Every one of these events has a positive spinout even though it doesnt look or feel like it in the beginning. 3. List all of the reasons why you think that turn unexpectedly made your life better in one way or another: Have you ever heard, What you think in your mind will actually cause the future to abide by that? Its true. Do not think about listing all the negative things that you think was the result. It is amazing how many positive thoughts come up, that you hadnt ever thought about. Give yourself a break! It will blow your mind! 4. Make a list of the problems and difficulties that would have taken place if your life had not taken a turn: Surely you know where you were headed, but were just avoiding the issue. You say, No, I never thought about it. Heres the chance to drum up some negative thoughts that produce a positive result. Hidden in the mind are all these thoughts. But when you sit down to write them out, they are uncovered, like a miracle. Try it! See what happens! What may seem so terrible in the beginning will actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise. It may take time to see it, but eventually you will know it. Dont trouble your soul with doubt. Its a free handout that comes with faith. Take the handout and make a better life for yourself. That in turn will enrich all those around you. 5. Compare the lists that you just created and discover the hidden connections: Buried within this pile of words is a revelation. Open your mind so that you can feel it. You will see that the sudden turn in your living path has certainly thrust you into a new and powerful hold on the value of your soul and life. Sounds like a bunch of BS. Right? If you look at the direction you might have been going, that kink in the path that happened, and where you find yourself now, there is proof of the epiphany. 6. Allow your mind to bring those connections into reality: Just take a close look around you. What do you see that is there now, and wasnt there before? You can, if you look hard, see that all those things that were leading you down the wrong path have changed. The changes place you in a unique position to grab onto opportunities that would never have existed before. See it and believe it! 7. Find the inevitable answer: You cant fight it. Remarkable as it seems, all these things happen for a reason. The reason only becomes obvious with time. Faith in a higher power permits the vision to come into focus. Then you will know the true answer. God walks beside you all the way through your journey. Skeptics will ponder and wander, forever. You wont. 8. Notice how unexplainably your life becomes more peaceful and fruitful: Wow! You do feel the peace of mind. You experience the calmness of your soul. No one can convince you to believe anything different. Trying to explain the changes and the emotions that you now feel is easy and unnecessary. What is so exciting about it is that all of those around you see this happening, and brings them closer to you than ever before. Nothing is better than that. Agreed? Your business starts booming, you get a promotion, you dont seem to be in a continuous struggle anymore, or someone special comes into your life. You will see your life expanding into productiveness, compassion, desire to help others, and satisfaction. Thats what we call caring. 9. Later, take a good look back and it all becomes understandable: With the maturity of age and the wisdom brought about by experience and knowledge, we are able to look back at our lives with generous regard. There is no criticism, no judgment, no punishment that you previously laid on yourself. You did the best you could under the circumstances, and all you need to do is forgive yourself. Just say out loud, I forgive me for all those things. God has already forgiven me. 10. Recognize that you dont just think it, you know it: Sometimes we just dont stop to think about it. The gains of happiness, love, and faith creep up on us so subtly that it just seems to be a natural occurrence. It isnt! We were being led through life with a guiding hand. And, at the same time, following the plan set up for us at the instant we were born. We do choose the path we want to take to get there. But, if you notice, all the paths are heading in the same general direction. Getting sidetracked here and there is just part of the life-game. Now that you know, make it count! Are Parabens Really Safe

By Lisa Taylor Barger You've probably heard the news stories about parabens and the controversy surrounding their use in personal care products. Here's a brief, but fair, look at this complicated issue: No cosmetic can ever be truly "natural"-no matter what the manufacturer claims-but some ingredients are closer than others. Parabens have long been considered an ideal compromise and until quite recently were considered one of the safest preservative methods available. But an article published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology has cast doubt on the safety of parabens and, especially, their potential role in the development of some types breast cancers. Scientists have known for some time that parabens can mimic the effect of estrogen when used on lab animals but in early 2004, British researchers from the University of Reading announced that they had found parabens in in the cancerous tumors of human breast cancer patients. Equally concerning is the fact that researchers believe that the form of parabens found in those tumors indicate that the parabens were absorbed topically and not taken orally. But most frightening is the fact that parabens were found in EVERY sample. It's important to note that this was a very, very small study--only 20 women--and there's absolutely no way to tell what, if any, skin care products are implicated. Although the lead researcher has cautioned that there's no definitive proof that parabens actually cause breast cancers, he has already called for more study. Should YOU Be Concerned? Manufacturers are. Many of the leaders in the natural products industry have already announced plans to discontinue the use of parabens and more are expected to follow suit. How do you know if your skin care products contain parabens? Read the labels. All cosmetics are required by law to carry full ingredient lists. If your skin care products don't have ingredients listed, or you can't find the preservative in the list, be suspicious. Be equally suspicious of manufacturers who claim to use only natural essential oils or grapefruit seed extract. In day-to-day usage, they just don't work as promised. One of the most exciting new preservatives being used today is Hydroxymethylglycinate, a derivative of the naturally occurring amino acid Glycine. It's considered extremely safe and seems to be less apt to cause allergic reactions than other preservatives. Seven Common Questions About Home Weather Stations (And Their Answers)

By Graham McClung Have you ever started a conversation with a comment about the weather? Has an unexpected weather change created havoc in your garden, pond or aviary, or even damaged your home? Have you ever noticed that the weather you experienced during your day was different to that reported by your nearest official weather station? Have you ever left home wearing clothing that was too warm or cool for the day's weather? Or would you just like to know a little more about your local weather than you can find out from TV or the internet? A "yes" answer to any of those questions suggests that you could benefit from owning your own home weather station. Now is a great time to get a weather station of your own. Recent improvements mean they have never before been so powerful, so easy to use and install, or so well priced. I'm sure you'd like to know more, so here are some answers to the seven most commonly asked questions about home weather stations: 1. What is a Home Weather Station? A modern home weather station consists of one or more sensors which collect data on temperature, humidity, air pressure, rainfall, and wind direction and speed from around your home. This information is transferred to a receiver/display console located in the comfort of your home, and updated frequently. The cost and usefulness rises with the number of sensors used. 2. A friend had a weather station and there were cables everywhere. Why would I want that? No problems there. Older home weather stations sent data along thin cables, but you will have no difficulty in finding suitable units which use radio to transmit the weather information, over effective ranges of 330 feet or more. No wires, no holes in the roof or wall. 3. How difficult are they to set up? With a little preplanning, it takes little time or effort to get a home weather station up and running. Once you have chosen the positions for the sensors and receiver, and checked that they are in contact with each other, all you need is some very basic ability with a drill and screwdriver. 4. How reliable are home weather stations, and what do they cost? Home weather stations vary from a simple temperature recorder to multi sensor arrays. Costs start from less than US$30 for the simplest models with a single sensor, up to around $5-600 for a quality home weather center. More specialized units, designed more for commercial and agricultural uses, run up to $3,000. As in most things, you get what you pay for, and you can expect a $500 model to be stronger and more reliable than something from the lower end of the price range. Nevertheless, with a little bit of preparation and maintenance, you can expect the cheaper models to give good consistent service. Much more information can be found at www.home-weather-stations-guide.com 5. Will I just see raw weather data, or can I expect more? You can expect a lot more. Most weather stations offer a range of calculated functions such as relative humidity, dewpoint, heat index and wind chill factor, depending on which sensors are used. Many have a basic forecasting ability, correct about three times out of four. Many include alarm functions which can be preset at critical high or low temperatures, high wind speeds etc. Almost all show the time, and many of the simpler ones can double as an alarm clock - imagine being woken in the morning with the console showing both the time and the outside temperature. 6. Can I connect my weather station to my computer? In most cases, yes. In fact many of the better weather stations include software allowing easy connection. A wide range of commercial weather software is compatible with most weather station models. Take it a step further and you can even link your weather station with automatic heating and watering systems (and much more). Imagine the savings in water use if your irrigation system was controlled by something a little smarter than a timer. 7. What other uses could a home weather station have? I've mentioned a number of uses in the answers above, but a home weather station can help out anywhere that wind, rainfall or temperature data is useful. Most stations will handle several temperature sensors - you could check soil temperature to help guide you with spring or fall plantings, pool temperatures, or even temperatures in a baby's nursery inside your home. Or you could run a very simple system monitoring temperatures in an outdoor aviary or greenhouse. On a different track, you can upload your data to a web page - many people do - or contribute to the overall USA weather picture by sending your information to CWOP (Citizen Weather Observer Program) There are so many ways to benefit from a home weather station. But to my mind, I've left the best to last. By observing the weather around your home, you are opening up a much wider field - the enjoyment of the natural world. As you see patterns develop in the information you have collected, you'll start to appreciate the weather maps, weather warnings, satellite images, radar and forecasts more. You'll find yourself watching the clouds, and how they change with variations in air pressure or wind direction, and you may even improve on the official forecasts. And overall you'll find yourself paying more attention to the world outside - not just the sky, wind and clouds but all other aspects of the natural world. So if you can see a need for a home weather station, go ahead and get one that suits you - you'll find a link to a helpful website just below the end of this article.
