Siamese Sammy

By MR Gooding Sammy is a Siamese cat and thats why I call her Siamese Sammy. She belongs to Gina, a freckle faced girl that lives in the house behind mine. Well, Sammy is supposed to live there too but, she likes to sleep in our backyard because my big sister has a garden of giant sunflowers. My sister Danielle gets really mad when she sees me and Sammy sleeping there. She always yells the same words like a broken record, Lacy, get that cat and get out of my flowerbed! She thinks were ruining her precious flowers. Danielle thinks Sammy likes the shade from the flowers and thats why she sleeps in the garden, but I think she hates to go home because Gina isnt very nice to Sammy. Gina doesnt take care of Sammy, she says Sammy can take care of herself. I feed Sammy everyday anyways and I pet her to make her happy and hear her purr. I know Sammy likes it when I feed her because she eats anything I give her. She even likes cheese! Everyday when I give Sammy a kitty treat, she acts like she is starving. I even take the ticks off her with tweezers and brush her with flea powder once a week. I think she likes having the ticks taken off but, she tries to run away when I get the flea powder.
She loves it when I hold her and sometimes Sammy and I both fall asleep together in the grass right next to the huge sunflowers. Danielle wont yell at us if we stay on the grass and out of the flowerbed. Then one day when I tried to pick Sammy up to hold her, she hissed at me and tried to bite my hand. I ran crying to Mom because I thought Sammy didnt love me anymore. My Mom said Sammy was going to have kittens and not to pick her up for awhile. She told me that Sammy still loved me and I could tell because when she bit my hand, it didnt really hurt. Mom said that was Sammys way of telling me that she didnt want to be picked up. Mom started taking care of Sammy with me so I could still be with her and not make her mad at me. She said sometimes you just have to be a mom to know how to take care of one.
Sammy let my mom rub her back and her tummy. She let me pet her head and smooth her tail. It made us both happy. It was almost 2:00 Oclock in the morning when my mom heard Sammy meowing really loud in our backyard. I heard her too and Mom let me go with her outside looking for Sammy. After a few minutes, we heard a tiny little meow coming from a rose bush next to the sunflower garden. Sammys first born kitten was stuck in the bottom of a rose bush and Sammy couldnt help him. Mom saved him from the thick thorns and put him in a box with a warm blanket in it. Then she put the box right next to Sammy so Sammy could see that her kittens were okay. I got to stay with Sammy until all six kittens were born. She had one that was white as a snowflake, one that was white with gray ears and tail. She had one that was just like her, brown spots and all! Then she had a light gray one with white on his paws, a black one with white on his chest and one was all dark gray. Mom gently lifted Sammy and put her in the box with her kittens. Sammy went to sleep while she let her kittens nurse. Mom said every mother goes to sleep after having a baby, even animal mothers.
Then we went to bed too. Later that morning, Gina was peeking over our backyard fence as usual when she saw Sammy in the box with her kittens. Those are MY kittens Lacy and Im coming over to get them! she hollered. I ran inside to tell my mom but she said there was nothing we could do. Siamese Sammy was Ginas cat and we would have to give her the kittens too.
Gina took the little family home and I went to my room and cried into my pillow. Mom tried to make me feel better by explaining why Gina owned the kittens and Siamese Sammy. But I didnt care what she said, I didnt feel better. Then we heard a loud meowing at our back door. It was Sammy! She had brought one of her kittens back to our house and laid him by the backdoor. We got another box from our garage and put another soft blanket in it. When we put the box on the back porch, Sammy had carried two more kittens from Ginas house to ours. We watched her leave and return until all six of her kittens were safely in the box. Then she climbed in the box with them and went to sleep. Later that afternoon, here came Gina again demanding her kittens and Sammy. I told her she had to bring the first box that we put the kittens in and then she could carry them all home together. I didnt cry this time when Sammy left because I knew she would be back. That evening just before dark, here came Sammy with her kittens one by one. I put them in the box with the soft blanket and set the box in my room beside my bed. Mom said it was okay. The next morning, here came Gina. You stole my cats again didnt you?, she snarled. No, I didnt, Gina, Sammy brought them back here because youre so mean! I shot back. Im telling my mom that you wont give me back my cats, she snapped, then youll be in trouble! I watched her run until she disappeared around the corner.
I went inside and told my mom what happened.
She called Ginas mother right away. It felt like they talked forever!
When mom finally hung up the phone, Ginas mother was more than happy to give Sammy with all of her kittens to us! She was moving in two weeks and couldnt have any pets in her new apartment. She was going to tell Gina that very afternoon. I was so happy I almost cried! The next day after work, Ginas mom brought over Sammys food and water dishes and several cat toys. I put everything in my room so that I could make sure that Sammy and her family had everything they needed. Mom said just for one night, it was okay, until we could make them a more permanent home in our garage. For the next several weeks, our garage had become a kitty playground. Soon they were old enough to explore our backyard. Lacy, look at the kittens playing in my flowerbed! my sister hollered.
Arent they the cutest things youve ever seen? I couldnt believe it! She was letting the kittens run and play all through her flowerbed and she was happy about it!
